BMW i5 LWB First Edition Bookings Open in India With 99 Units Planned
BMW has opened bookings for the i5 LWB First Edition in India, with only 99 units planned. Locally assembled in Chennai, the electric sedan offers 669 km range, 268 hp and enhanced rear-seat comfort.
The BMW i5 LWB will be locally assembled at BMW Group Plant Chennai, making it the second electric BMW model to roll out of the facility after the iX1. It will also become BMW India's first locally produced electric sedan.
BMW describes the i5 LWB as the largest and longest sedan in its segment. The model measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height. Its wheelbase has been extended to 3,105 mm from 2,995 mm in the standard version, providing additional rear-seat space.
The long-wheelbase version is aimed at customers who prioritise rear-seat comfort and cabin space while retaining the driving characteristics associated with the 5 Series.
The Indian-spec i5 LWB is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 268 hp. BMW claims a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 6.7 seconds. The sedan gets an 81.6 kWh high-voltage battery pack and offers a claimed driving range of up to 669 km on a single charge under India's MIDC test cycle.
To suit Indian road conditions, the i5 LWB features adaptive rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance. BMW says these measures help improve ride comfort and reduce the risk of underbody damage on uneven surfaces.
The First Edition variant adds a dedicated rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and tablet holder. The cabin also features exclusive BMW Individual Silver Bronze accents, Fineline open-pored fine-wood trim and Silver Bronze inlays. A "FIRST EDITION" laser engraving on the dashboard trim further distinguishes the limited-run model.
On the outside, the First Edition combines Carbon Black Metallic paint with Titanium Bronze accents on elements including the grille surround and lower body trim. The specification gives the sedan a more distinctive appearance compared with standard i5 models.
With bookings now open and only 99 units planned for India, the i5 LWB First Edition marks BMW India's latest move to expand its locally assembled electric vehicle lineup while focusing on rear-seat space and comfort.
